The hidden iPhone setting tracking your location to preserve battery health

An iPhone hack to prolong battery life has again been circulating the web, as the little-known feature continues to surprise iPhone users.

The feature, which uses an algorithm to learn each user’s phone charging habits, aims to reduce the amount of time a phone spends fully charged, to help it last longer.

Lithium-ion batteries — such as the ones in every iPhone — experience “chemical ageing” when they are stressed.

“A battery’s chemical age results from a complex combination of several factors, including temperature History and charging pattern,” Apple explains.

One major stressor is when a battery is fully charged. That’s where Apple’s Optimised Battery Charging comes in.
